Upton Book Hunt

The Trust donated £350 to the Upton upon Severn Book Hunt, which ran for nine days over the May half term in 2024.

The aim of the book hunt was to provide an activity for children during the holiday. Four hundred books were hidden around Upton, with clues posted on a Facebook group each day. Local businesses and organisations, such as Clive’s Fruit Farm, Badhams Hardware Store and Upton Baptist Church all got involved in hiding books within their establishments. Participants were encouraged to read the book and the hide it for others to find, and reports were received of books reaching villages further afield, including Castlemorton.

The book hunt made the local press with the Malvern Gazette running a piece about it, promoting the event and explaining the importance of reading throughout the school holidays.

A local Uptonian who took her young son to take part in the book hunt commented “Oakley really loved going on the book hunt and we found “Double Trouble”, which is a first readers book. This will be great to read with him over the summer to get him used to phonics ready for starting school in September”.

Many locals commented on how grateful they were for a free, local, family centred activity which ran over the holiday, and how much their children enjoyed the books they found.
